Natural Systems in the Oceans

Be sure you carefully examine the videos located under “Classified Videos (by Subject), then within Natural Systems Within The Oceans…and Other Bodies of Water“.  There are an amazing collection of videos there for you to examine.

Many of us have been to the beach, and wondered about what lives in the ocean that is so expansive as we view the horizon. But few of us have had experiences where we actually observe what lives within this massive domain. Even those of us who are fortunate enough to “snorkel” (use a underwater mask and breathing tube to look under water and breath at the same time), or “SCUBA” (use a Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus), we often see only a limited variety of what lives in the water in which we are swimming. Even those who go fishing, see only the fish we catch and other living organisms that are within several feet of the surface of the ocean.

The ocean is a huge place, and usually a person observes only a very tiny portion of its marine life if they observe any life at all. But if you go into the oceans enough, and you know where to look and are lucky, you can begin to observe the fabulous diversity of life that resides in the oceans.

There are people who are devoted to make these observations and recording them in media that they can share with the rest of us. PBS is a great place to find these videos, some are located here in this blog.

Are their other ways that society can effectively communicate ideas about this spectacular environment?

What needs to be done to structure laws and regulations that apply to the fishing industries so that the marine life that now resides within the oceans continues to exist here on the planet?
