PBS Science Programs are Very Provocative! Let’s work with them.

PBS Science Videos are a very powerful tool in educating yourself on science and can be accessed here using the Categories of Videos organized by subject of title and in the www.pbs.org website.
The following NOVA explores the Methane that is seeping out of the Arctic tundra. There are many issues raised in the NOVA, but methane’s effects of capturing the sunlight and heating the atmosphere may be the most important. You’ll see in the video that there is lots of urgent work to learn about the critical Climate Change issues raised in the program.

To view the PBS programming you may need to become a Passport member of a local PBS station. My PBS “So Cal” membership costs $60 per year, a relatively inexpensive cost for the quality of programs available on PBS. Finding funding that supports PBS programming seems to be a constant challenge. I would hope that the Federal Government would fully fund PBS, NPR and other non-profit educational resources, but as of this date that funding has not materialized. Bear in mind that the producers of these fabulous programs need to make enough money to support their very valuable work! Please do not get discouraged when PBS asks for your financial support.
EXCESSIVE NATURAL RESOURCE EXTRACTION HAS BECOME A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND MUST BE INCLUDED WITHIN THE CONCEPT OF CLIMATE CHANGE!
The Fact that Natural Resources are in finite supply on the Earth, and the recent political efforts to stimulate Economic Development by recent political administrations has greatly reduced regulations on our nation’s exploitation of Nature. This fueling of recent economic developments at the expense of nature is another example of how mankind is charging ahead with the destruction of our planet as we know it. It is sobering to me to realize that a very significant part of the damage to nature has been caused by the rapid exploitation of carbon energy resources since WW2, when I was a just a child. Excessive Natural Resource extraction certainly must be joined with reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by burning less (or no) coal and natural gas. Humanity must act NOW if we are to get a handle on the development of a sustainable social and economic structure for our future human societies. We must take a careful look into the systems underlying economic development and insist that these structures contributes to our living on the planet in a sustainable manner!
